HS Codes for Apparel and Textiles

HS Codes for Apparel & Textiles – Chapters 61–63

HS Codes for Apparel and Textiles are used to classify garments, clothing accessories and other made-up textile products for international trade. In the Indian ITC-HS classification, Chapters 61, 62 and 63 cover major categories of ready-made garments and made-up textile articles.

This page provides a quick reference to commonly used classifications within these chapters. Always verify the complete ITC-HS code and applicable requirements before importing or exporting.

Chapter 61 — Knitted or Crocheted Apparel

Chapter 61 covers articles of apparel and clothing accessories that are knitted or crocheted. Examples include T-shirts, jerseys, pullovers, cardigans, trousers and other knitted garments.

Chapter 62 — Woven / Non-Knitted Apparel

Chapter 62 covers articles of apparel and clothing accessories that are not knitted or crocheted. This includes many woven garments such as shirts, trousers, jackets, dresses and coats.

Chapter 63 — Other Made-Up Textile Articles

Chapter 63 covers other made-up textile articles, including various household and textile products, sets and other made-up articles. DGFT ITC-HS mapping includes Chapters 61–63 within its readymade garments and made-ups category.

Chapter 61 vs Chapter 62

How to Choose Between HS Chapter 61 and 62

The key distinction is whether the apparel is knitted/crocheted or not.

Chapter 61
Generally covers knitted or crocheted apparel.

Chapter 62
Generally covers apparel that is not knitted or crocheted, including many woven garments.

For example, the same general type of garment can fall under different chapters depending on how it is constructed. Classification should therefore be based on the actual product rather than simply its commercial name.

Chapter 63 — Made-Up Textiles

Chapter 63 includes a broad range of made-up textile products.

Examples include:

  • Bed linen
  • Table linen
  • Toilet and kitchen linen
  • Certain household textile articles
  • Textile sets
  • Other made-up textile articles

CBIC’s classification guidance, for example, identifies dress sets under heading 6307 and distinguishes certain apparel based on whether it is knitted/crocheted or not.
